Is there a solar-powered portable air-conditioner on the market?

I have had an ‘Olivetti 200 Solar‘ pocket calculator for some 15 years now and it is used daily, night and day, without ever having been outside my home. Why can't the technique that produced this calculator be used for mobile air conditioning?

Your calculator requires very little power whereas air conditioning units require significant amounts of power. The power that can be generated by current solar panels is not enough to offset the power used by even a small compressor. It would be possible to carry a battery powered one that would recharge over a long period of time, but more likely than not, you'll be dragging around a huuuge battery.

Can someone point me in the right direction to build a solar power system that can power my air conditioner for the summer? I live in a 700 square foot apartment. Any idea on the cost to build something like this? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

First use the load calculator to find out how much energy in terms of wattage your AC unit consumes per day. Then you have 2 choices. You can use the off grid calculator to figure out the size of a system it would take to power your ac unit completely detached from the utility. Or you can use the on grid calculator to see what size system you would need to connect a PV array to the grid to offset your AC usage.

how to run an air conditioner using solar power?

i would like to know if anyone has ever tried to run an air conditioner using solar panels. i know that pretty much anything can be hooked up to a battery to run it. How many solar panel did you need? 50 watts, 100watts, etc. and did you hardwire it directly or did you get some type of adapter for the ac plug to the solar panels. thanks.

Depends on type of ac unit you are talking about and how many amps it pulls…multiply volts times amps this gives you watts… 30 amps times 230 volts would be 6900 watts or 6.9 kilowatts….you would need a power converter to change the voltage from dc to ac to run air conditioner or anything else…

Is there any air condition which runs on fully solar panels (electricity).
I am already aware that there are some ac in the market that use partially local and solar panels(electricity) causing 50 percentage saving.
My question is that , are there any air conditioner that run totally on solar electricity.????

The cost of the equipment would not be recovered in the lifetime of the equipment.

Well if its raining and humidity is 100% and your are dieing of heat, your solar powered AC isn't going to be running unless you have several tons of batteries backing the solar system up.
