Your Questions About Solar Powered Fan

Donna asks…

Solar fan & how to use it ?

Just moving into a new house, has only been built for a few years I think.
It's timber faced, well insulated, has a micro-gen heating system that does 12 houses combined heat and power, and those pagoda style window shades.
There is a switch saying “solar fan“, that only works when it's really hot outside. there are ceiling vents in most rooms, but when this fan is on (and very powerful too), it pumps hot air through the large stairwell vent into the building. Fuseboard has a switch saying “ventillation” – so I preume it's mains powered.
What is i's use, is it costly to run, and generally what is it for?
Thanks.

Laura asks…

how do you measure energy efficiency?

i wanted to build a solar powered fan, and test energy efficiency, but i dont know how to do that, so can any of my yahoo peers pleez explain to me or give me links to other websites tht would help me figure out how to measure energy efficiency.

ssadmin answers:

Efficiency= (Useful energy/Total energy) x100
that may not help but the question is hard to understand, for instance, what efficiency are you trying to find, the panel or the fan?

Nancy asks…

Need help with building a project involving solar panels?

I've built a set of lights, fan and a clock running on only solar power. The problem is, i have to present it tomorrow and when the light isn't particularly strong it won't work too well. It works flawlessly when its under my desk light on max brightness but the only the light works when i set it to low brightness. Currently, tomorrow in my city it won't be sunny so any advice for trying to make it work under low light?

ssadmin answers:

Solar panels are designed to be used to recharge a battery or series of batteries, not for direct power. That is the inherent weakness of solar systems.

The only way to have it work in low light conditions if to have several cells wired in series and have a voltage regulator to limit the amount of voltage that can be supplied. Other than that, add a battery and a charging circuit that the cell would supply power to.

MY dog has bear Heat AS I HAVE TO LEAVE HIM FOR 1 to 2hours in car.I have heard about SOLAR Power fans are they really that beneficial that car remains cool for 5to6hours when parked outside and Are their Other Products also available.PLs! mention prices also.If you knoW.IT becomes oven hot would that be overcomed by the product you mentioning

ssadmin answers:

NEVER NEVER NEVER leave your dog in a hot car even for less than a minute. Just don't do it. He will die a horrible, painful death. You should never leave anyone in a hot car. I hope to God that you are not serious.

If I ever saw an animal in a car on a hot day I would immediately smash the window to get the animal out and call the police.

Trust me old asbestos hands I live in Texas. There is no products that will keep the interior of the car from becoming 130 to 140 degrees. Your only hope is to keep the steering wheel cool enough to touch with a reflective windshield cover. Windows down get air moving and turn on the A/C until you feel cold air then roll up the windows. I have tried everything from fans pinched into the windows to car covers. When I get off work I want my A/C. Being a Mechanic working over hot motors in a Non-Airconditioned repair shop. All metal boxes parked in the sun become ovens. I jump into 4 or 5 really hot cars every day in the long summer.
